Shirodhara is a continuous stream of herbalized oil, herbal decoctions, milk, or buttermilk on the forehead at the point in between the eyebrows in a steady stream. ‘Shiro’ is head and ‘Dhara’ means stream, a very calming, relaxing treatment for the nervous system, insomnia, stress, psychosomatic mental disorders, and Vata and skin disorders. The constant stream of liquid creates a vibration, which transmutes the energy to a subtle state, and by slowing the breath, induces a state of deep meditative relaxation.
